This is the second camera in the climb to the top of the Spy-Point standard sized product line. It has the same refined rough finished case along with many common features (see link) as the A series of these cameras. So we will start off explaining the difference. There is a one mega pixel jump in resolution in the stills (7mp and 3mp) and this should give sharper high file sized images. With all the great features as the IR-A there are a difference in the battery compartment. It will still take the 6 C cells as the A series but it also has a DC plug that will plug up into the optional rechargeable lithium ion battery plus there is features to use their solar panel also. Programming remains the same as with the A model which is super simple even a reviewer can do it. Included in the box are the strap, USB cable, and video cable. Instructions remain the same with the exception the directions as to how to use the rechargeable battery. We are presently still in a review of the 08 C model with the solar panel and rechargeable battery and will move that to this camera when the time comes for the battery life testing.

04-27-2009 update:  As mentioned in the basic review of the A model this camera also has the new multi zone sensor to improve the sensing area coverage. The company mentioned that this change was requested by owners that needed the extra coverage for security purposes. A multitude of trigger time tests has showed that this camera comes in at an average of just under two seconds for both with and without flash. This is not to shabby considering previous tests on last years cameras.

05-05-2009 update:  We had to slip this cam to the hill early because we pulled the A model to do a firmware update because of a faulty flash issue. The first thing done was the flash range and those pictures showed good flash to 60 feet and sensing at the same distance for a 70 degree temperature measurement. Once that was done it was put watching the test area to start to gather sample pictures. Let’s hope this cams flash holds up and we do not run into another delay and a bunch of additional testing.

05-14-2009 update:  Sample pictures in high rez have been done and they came out sharp and clear with the exception of that old issue where the transition period pictures lack color but that is expected. The transition pictures are just a lighter version of the IR pictures and appear not to go to the full whiteout like we seen on the Moultrie IR cameras. View the sample pictures to see just how they look. So far this camera has worked just great and will move to the video mode next.

05-15-2009 update:  Sample video’s collected so far show that this cam and its sister camera the A model have the same quality. Even with the great illumination the video’s come out a bit grainy. They are readable but still need a little help.

06-06-2009 update:  We have completed the battery life test on this camera using Energizer C cells.  We got 2570 photos and 970 10 second movies. The camera lasted about 3 weeks.  This is a respectable battery life as most of the videos were at night using flash.  Most of the photos were in low res 4 shot mode and more in the day time not requiring flash.  As with any camera, the battery life is greatly affected by the number of events requiring flash.

07-17-2009 update:  The review on this camera has goon very good with the exception on a little graininess in the video quality. A small step up in MP from the A model the performance is very much the same. If we re receive additional firm ware updates we will re open this review. As of now it is closed.
